LASIK uses a laser to reshape the surface of your eye thus reducing or eliminating your dependency on prescription glasses or contact lenses. LASIK is FDA approved to treat myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. The procedure has achieved worldwide acceptance and the odds are you know someone who has undergone LASIK and loves their new vision without glasses or contacts.

LASIK takes approximately 20 minutes for both eyes and you typically have good enough vision to drive the next day without glasses or contacts. Dr. Kownacki has had LASIK himself and has performed over 25,000 refractive procedures including his wife, son and daughter, both parents and most of his extended family.

Additionally, Dr. Kownacki also performs Advanced Surface Ablation, a flapless procedure for patients with thin corneas or those who do not want a flap.  He was also the first surgeon in California to perform Customvue LASIK and has some of the most experience in San Diego in performing the most advance form of LASIK called All Laser LASIK. This procedure uses a laser instead of a blade to make a flap that is a safer form of LASIK.
